New Delhi:
India on Tuesday evacuated 75 Indian nationals from Syria, two days after insurgent forces overthrew President Bashar Assad’s authoritarian authorities.
The evacuation, coordinated by the embassies of India in Damascus and Beirut, was put in force following an evaluation of the safety state of affairs, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated.
“The Government of India immediately evacuated 75 Indian nationals from Syria, following current developments in that nation,” it stated in a late-night assertion.
“The evacuees included 44 ‘zaireen’ from Jammu and Kashmir who had been stranded at Saida Zainab. All Indian nationals have safely crossed over to Lebanon and can return by accessible business flights to India,” it stated.
The MEA stated the federal government accords the best precedence to the protection and safety of Indian nationals overseas.
“Indian nationals remaining in Syria are suggested to remain in contact with the Indian Embassy in Damascus,” it stated.
“The authorities will proceed to observe the state of affairs intently,” the MEA added.
The Syrian authorities collapsed on Sunday because the rebels seized management of the capital Damascus after capturing a number of different distinguished cities and cities. Assad fled the nation after the insurgent group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) took management of Damascus, marking the tip of his household’s 50-year rule.
Russian state media reported that Assad is in Moscow and will probably be given asylum. His practically 14-year tenure was marked by civil warfare, bloodshed and brutal crackdown on his political opponents.
The MEA Monday stated it’s monitoring the unfolding developments in Syria and advocated a peaceable and inclusive Syrian-led political course of going ahead in that nation.
