LOS ANGELES — Major drama occurred within the opening sport of the 2024 World Series which will have determined which crew received Game 1.
With the rating tied 2-2 within the prime of the ninth inning between the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers, New York second baseman Gleyber Torres drilled a line drive ball 383 ft to left discipline.
As the ball was coming down, a fan reached out over the railing and snagged it in his glove. For a second, it appeared as a house run to place the Yankees forward 3-2.
But Dodgers left fielder Teoscar Hernández flailed his arms in protest, saying the fan interfered with the ball. After MLB officers reviewed the play, Torres was despatched again to second base with two outs.
After an intentional stroll of Yankees star Juan Soto, Dodgers pitcher Blake Treinen acquired Aaron Judge to come out and finish the inning.
The fan was escorted out of Dodger Stadium by safety.
The controversial play drew comparisons to legendary fan interference name corresponding to Yankees fan Jeffrey Maier on the 1996 ALCS who reached over the stands at Yankee Stadium to help Derek Jeter’s house run.
Los Angeles went on to win the sport 6-3 on a walk-off house run within the backside of the tenth inning by Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman.
“It may be the best baseball second I’ve ever witnessed,” Dodgers supervisor Dave Roberts mentioned postgame. “Just that swing, you knew it was gone. Pure elation. You do not see groups have fun after a sport with a walk-off like that, but it surely was definitely warranted.”
Game 2 is Saturday night time in Los Angeles at 8:08 p.m. ET. The Yankees will flip to left-hander Carlos Rodón whereas the Dodgers will begin rookie right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
