Days earlier than the election, DOJ continues to prosecute new Jan. 6 instances

Standing inside a sparsely crammed federal courtroom in Washington yesterday afternoon, one other Trump supporter who dedicated crimes on Jan. 6, 2021, as a result of he believed the then-president’s election lies was sentenced to jail for collaborating in what his sentencing decide described as “a direct assault on the nation’s democracy.”
Wearing a blue go well with as he shook, sniffled and fought again tears, 38-year-old Troy Weeks talked extensively about his tough childhood, bragged that he refused to participate in a walkout when he was in highschool, quoted scripture and apologized to one of many few individuals within the courtroom gallery: former Capitol Police Sgt. Aquilino Gonell, a navy veteran who was repeatedly assaulted whereas defending the Capitol almost 4 years in the past.
