Bihar: The entire nation is celebrating Krishna Janmashtami with great enthusiasm. However, a tragic incident similar to the one in Jehanabad was narrowly avoided. Police had to resort to a lathi charge on devotees who had gathered for a glimpse of Lord Krishna.
There was a stampede at the Baba Siddheshwar Nath Shiva Temple in Jehanabad, where seven people lost their lives and 22 others were injured. A similar situation almost unfolded at the ISKCON temple in Patna today. When the temple gates opened, the crowd rushed forward uncontrollably, forcing the police to use lathi charge (batons) to control the situation. However, temple spokesperson Nand Gopal denied that any baton charge took place, claiming that the crowd was managed without such force.
In the Jehanabad incident, police negligence was blamed for the chaos. On the night of August 11, a stampede occurred at the Baba Siddheshwar Nath Shiva Temple, located 25 kilometers from Jehanabad. Accidently, seven people, including a woman, lost their lives, and about 22 others were injured. Post this incident, the district administration and police conducted an investigation, leading to the suspension of several officials and the issuance of show-cause notices to around 50 people, including administrative officers and police personnel.
