West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will go to the riverine island of Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district today– a primary because the sexual harassment controversy broke out forward of the Lok Sabha election. The Chief Minister can be heading for Sandeshkhali early right this moment to chair a public distribution programme.

The obscure island in West Bengal had hit the headlines earlier this yr, earlier than the Lok Sabha elections.

Its set off was the protest by the locals towards alleged incidents of sexual assault and land grabbing. They blamed the native Trinamool strongman Sheikh Shahjahan — who has since been suspended by the social gathering — and his two aides, Shibu Prasad Hazra and Uttam Sardar.

The Trinamool later held a press convention on a collection sting operations during which a video surfaced on social media. It confirmed a former BJP chief purportedly claiming that the entire episode was “scripted by the BJP”.

The Trinamool stated the allegations of sexual harassment have been politically motivated, meant to defame the social gathering.

The BJP claimed the allegations have been an instance of the Trinamool misrule and exploitation of ladies.

In the Lok Sabha election, the Trinamool Congress received the Basirhat seat, inside which the Sandeshkhali meeting seat is positioned.

Sheikh Shahjahan was arrested on February 29  after he managed to evade the police for round two months. He went on the run after his supporters attacked three Enforcement Directorate officers who visited Sandeshkhali on January 5. The assault had let the officers injured.
