Legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar has opened up on wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson, following his exclusing from Team India’s squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy. Despite a lot talks over his inclusion within the 15-man squad, Samson, to his disappointment, was not noted of the group on Saturday. KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant have been picked because the designated wicketkeepers, with the choice to snub Samson receiving a number of backlash. Weighing in on the talk, Gavaskar urged that the omission may need been a tricky capsule to swallow for Samson.
“Very robust as a result of the person has been scoring a whole lot and a whole lot of runs. There is not any excuse to depart him out. But he was pitted towards Rishabh Pant, who everyone knows is usually a game-changer. Plus Pant is a left-hander and he’s most likely the higher wicketkeeper, though he may not be the higher batter than Samson,” Gavaskar stated in an interview with India Today.
However, Gavaskar defined the logic behind the selectors choosing Pant over Samson, labelling the previous as a “higher keeper”.
“Pant can change the sport maybe a little bit greater than Samson and that is motive why Samson missed out. But Samson should not really feel dejected as a result of all Indian cricket lovers can have sympathy for him for what he has achieved,” Gavaskar added.
Since making his ODI debut, Samson has been out and in of group, with the selectors typically ignoring him regardless of his stellar document within the 50-over format.
He has performed simply 16 ODIs in practically a decade, scoring 510 runs at a median of 56.66 and a strike-rate of 99.60 with 100 and three fifties to indicate for his efforts.
