Elaborate security measures have been set up for the second Test match between India and Bangladesh at the Green Park International Stadium in Kanpur, scheduled for September 27. The arrangements were confirmed by senior police officials to ensure the safety of players and the public during the event. Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Harish Chander, stated that the police force would be deployed in adequate numbers, including senior officers, to ensure the match goes smoothly without any security concerns.
Coordination with central and state intelligence agencies, including the Intelligence Bureau (IB), is part of the effort to handle any potential threats during the match. The stadium and the nearby Hotel Landmark, where the teams are expected to stay, have been divided into zones and sub-zones for better management. Each section is being overseen by officers of the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).
A recent issue involving a group protest near the stadium has added to the security focus. An FIR was lodged against 20 members of the Akhilesh Bhartiya Hindu Mahasabha after they blocked the road and organized a ‘havan’ in protest against alleged atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh. Among those named in the FIR are Rakesh Mishra, Vikas Gupta, and others. The group is being charged with unlawful assembly, rioting, and obstruction of public order under sections 189(2), 191(2), 223, and 285 of the BNS.
To manage crowd control and traffic, special traffic diversions are in place around the stadium. The city police are also working to ensure smooth entry and exit for the teams and fans, while addressing any protest-related disruptions. The local administration has vowed to make the event safe and successful for both players and spectators.
