External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke openly about India’s relationship with Pakistan, saying that the time for continuous talks with Pakistan is over. He highlighted that actions have consequences and that the issue of Jammu and Kashmir, specifically Article 370, is settled.
He suggested that India is not simply waiting for things to happen but will respond appropriately to developments, whether they are positive or negative. This stance reflects a more confident and clear-eyed approach to managing relations with Pakistan, moving away from a strategy of endless discussions without concrete outcomes. The underlying message is that India is focused on its interests and is prepared to act decisively in response to Pakistan’s actions.
Regarding Afghanistan, Jaishankar highlighted strong ties between the people of India and Afghanistan. However, he noted that India’s approach to Afghanistan is guided by clear strategic interests, rather than relying on outdated views. He also pointed out that Afghanistan with American presence is very different from Afghanistan without it.
On Bangladesh, Jaishankar stated that India’s relationship with the country has seen ups and downs since Bangladesh’s independence. He stressed that India will work with the current government but must also be prepared for political changes that could be disruptive. The key, he said, is to find common interests.
