SEOUL: South Korea – South Korean singer Taeil, a 30 year boy has left K-pop band after being accused and investigated by the police of an vague sexual crime on Wednesday.
Taeil, whose real name is Moon Tae-il has left the band post accusation of sexual crime. SM Entertainment said in his post “what exactly the musician is accused off is not clear but we will cooperate with the investigation agency”.
We have discussed this with Taeil, and it has been decided that he will leave the group.” The label also mentioned that Taeil is fully cooperating with the police investigation.
Taeil, a globally popular South Korean boy band that debuted in 2016. The group has over two dozen members divided into several subunits, Taeil part of NCT 127, known for his experimental music that spans various genres, the group has gained international attention, with some of their releases charting on Billboard.
SM Entertainment’s statement received over 45.7 million views in less than three hours. The report of a criminal case could not be independently verified, and the police declined to comment.
K-pop, which originated in South Korea, is a blend of pop, R&B, and hip-hop sounds from the West, combined with cultural elements from the country. It has grown into a global phenomenon, particularly after the success of the boy band BTS in the late 2010s.
